Abstract

Composting is effected by forcibly aerating prepd. compost material lying on a drainage grate in a heap, several m. high. A downward-flowing air-stream is used, generated through on over-press. maintained in space above the free surface of the compost material. Aerating air is kept at >=30 degrees C. Process is partic. suitable for composting building site or settlement waste contg. clarified sludge. Turning over is no longer required. Conditions suppress putrefaction bacteria and promote aerobic bacteria.
