Abstract

A device for tensioning the mast of a small sailing boat so that it may be pulled either to the right or to the left, enables the mast to follow the line of the sail, depending on the direction of the wind. The device (6) includes a pair of plates (11) with a friction disc between them mounted on a support (19) attached vertically to the mast, the front plate being attached to two stays (3, 4) extending away and sloping downwards from the connection point to a forward part of the hull (5). The height can be maintained between stops fitted to the vertical support. A handle (13) attached to the front plate can be swung either to right or left, tensioning one cable more than the other, and thus pulling the mast to one side.
