Abstract

The underwater video camera is supported by a single cable which is also used for electrical and video connections. The camera has interchangeable objectives and is mounted on a rail which permits adjustment of the focal distance to a reflecting mirror. The camera uses a turret which pivots by means of motorised reducing gear mechanism fitted with a friction wheel which drives a band on the turret through 360 deg. rotation. The turret supports another motorised reducing gear which is fitted with a cam which actuates a crank arm. The crank arm drives a second cam attached to a pivot fixed to the mirror which permits it to rotate through 180 deg. Thus the direct field of the camera is reflected by the mirror to achieve the field of reflection. When the field to explore is directly below, it is sufficient to position the mirror in the vertical positions. The thickness of the mirror being so close to the objective that it is not visible.
