Abstract

Moulded flanges for supporting materials wound on to cardboard core spools, where the flanges are injection moulded using sliding inserts which produce inclined teeth at intervals around the boss of the flange. The teeth have a smooth rise leading to a sharp crest which tends to deform and engage the core like a barb. Used esp. for flaking spools for storing tape coated with adhesive which are sufficiently non-migratory not to enhance the grip of a smooth flange/core interface. Flanges have two or pref. four hollow teeth uniformly distributed around the perimeter of the boss.
