Abstract

A separator for liquids, partic. light mineral oils and petrol, consisting of a vessel made of sheet metal or concrete, with a dip-pipe for taking out the lower layer, has an inlet chest connected to the dip-pipe close to the bottom of the vessel. This chest extends over the whole width of the outlet side of the vessel and has two openings half-way between the dip-pipe and the ends of the chest. The openings face upwards, and can be closed by a float-valve. More uniform flow and more utilisation of the space, without dead zones, is obtd., than a single outlet, partic. in the case of large separators. There is less risk of solids in the bottom of the vessel being entrained with the outgoing liq.
