Abstract

The light consists of a cast box which is supplied in the runway surface and has a rectangular opening in its upper face. The transverse edge of this opening are chamfered to match the interior surface slopes of the toughened glass prism. One edge is recessed, as is also the corresponding edge of the prism, so that a retaining bar may be screwed to the box to hold the prism in position. The light beam is emitted from one face of the prism, which is sloped so as not to offer much resistance to the air-cract tyres. A lamp mounted in a parabolic or elliptic mirror supplies the illumination, and the prism may be designed to emit the beam almost parallel to the ground.
