Abstract

An extrusion press for profile bars has an axially stationary die plate holder and a die plate ring. A pressure plate assembly with a coaxial loader ring is moved along the extrusion axis by hydraulic cylinders. This forces the extrusion blank in the loader ring against the die ring so that extrusion takes place. When the extrusion is completed, radial cutters remove the remainder of the blank so that the loader ring can be retracted. A shaver punch is then swiveled into the position of the die punch so that it can clear the remaining blank skin inside the loader ring. A loading cross slide places in the mean time a new blank in a coaxial position with the loader ring.
