Abstract

Optical element comprises a plastic moulding transparent to light, for reducing the dazzle caused by searchlights or headlamps, esp. in road traffic, by the refraction or reflection of the incident light. The novelty is that the moulding is provided with a light absorbing material possessing a higher degree of absorption in the wavelength range 580-700 nm than in the range 400-580 nm. The light absorbent is pref. distributed uniformly in the moulding and the pref. absorbents are (I) phthalocyanine green or (II) a mixt. of phthalocyanine green and modified phthalocyanine blue. For a mirror, the moulding is pref. polymethyl-methacrylate (III) contg. 0.201-0.203% absorbent (I). Used e.g. in windscreens, spectacle lenses and rear-view mirrors for motorists.
