Abstract

A storage heater with layers of bricks heated by heating elements between the joints, and with air channels through the rows, from top to bottom, and an air outlet at the bottom, has hairpin shaped electric heating elements, with the outer elements (17, 18) at alternate joints of the outer bricks (11 to 16) and with further heating elements (19) at alternate joints between the inner bricks (20) but with the outer heaters staggered from the inner heaters. The upper and middle rows receive less heat than the bottom rows. The bottom bricks here are nearest the air outlet and receive the greatest heat. This can be one and a half times the heat received by the other bricks.
