Abstract

A turbine pump for oil wells consists of an axial flow turbine vertically above an axial flow pump, arranged on the same shaft and both with a flow direction from the bottom upwards. An axial thrust compensating device between turbine inlet and pump outlet includes, on the underside of a disc, an annular area which is exposed to the turbine inlet pressure while the top end of the common shaft is exposed to the turbine outlet pressure. This compensates the axial thrust of the turbine and pump without restricting the pump inlet cross-section arising when the pump inlet is at the top end of the pump.
