Abstract
The electric contact for the high speed traction system, e.g. high speed train/monorail is formed by two sets of special pneumatic wheels which are not load bearing. These are against the sides of the contact/ guidance rail, where contact rails are mounted. The tread of the wheel is provided with a band of radially positioned conducting needles to pick up the current, with the bottom ends of the needles connected to a conducting mat inside the tyre. the mat takes the current out through the tyre walls to the metal wheel rim. the electric contact is thus self sprung for controlled pressure and can operate at high speeds without arc discharges.
