Abstract

An automatic appts. for chemical and biological analyses incorporates two circular plates, tangent and capable of being turned in opposite senses at the same peripheral speed with semi-circular notches for tubes holding reactants and kept in place by guides in the form of arcs, allowing the tubes to be transferred from one plate to the other where they are tangent and has circular openings in the first plate to hold tubes contg. the products to be analysed. These openings are spaced regularly, corresponding to the semicircular notches for reactants. Means are provided above the first plate to bring the tubes into their holes, to transfer to them a part of the contents of the tubes holding the products to be analysed, and to add the reactants. The rotations of the plates are intermittent and synchronised in steps corresp. to the length of the arc occupied by a whole number of tubes. The motor redn. gear shaft carries cams controlling this movement and the transfer and charging of the tubes, these operations being carried out during the time when the plates are stationary, and on a number of tubes corres. to the step of the intermittent rotation. An analysis post is at the side of the second plate. The appts. may include an automatic device for deproteinisation and a time control for kinetic studies. Mixing and transfers of reactants are all automated.
