Abstract

A crockery making system using granular clay or phosphatic or combination mixes in the dry or semi-dry state, avoids presenting a horizontal upper mix surface to a concave upper press face with attendant air-trapping and differential pressures applied to the mix. The top surface (13) of the mixture is convex matching the curved face (2) of the upper press (1). The mixture is shaped inside a hollow mould (10) with convex and concave lower and upper press jaws, the latter initially being retracted whilst the mould and lower jaw assembly is overfilled, then the jaw is lowered under elastic motivation, the mix compressed and the product formed.
