Abstract
Means of sepg. solid particles from a gas stream consists a hollow tubular section with a gas inlet, a gas outlet and an outlet for the particle rich stream. Along the section axis is a set of circular vanes to impart a vortex action to the gas and in the approach to the vanes is a deflector which guides the gas to the outer portion of the tubular section. This deflector has an upstream section and a downstream section which take the impact of the larger particles. The vanes form a circle around the deflector and extend to the edge of the tubular section. Used to separate solid particles from gas streams e.g. for use on i.c. engines, jet engines for aircraft or other turbines. The use of the deflector reduces the intensity of the vortex required for effective sepn. and therefore reduces the amt. of abrasion caused by the dirt particles.
