Abstract

The plug and socket design is intended particularly to provide protection against interference from children, preventing access to the live socket elements. The socket is provided with a centrally pivoted shutter (7) with two access holes held in its safe position covering the live elements (5, 6) by a single spring. A circular hole at the pivot point has two bar like keying elements (21, 22) protruding inwards. These locate with slots (24) in the earth pin (17) of the mating plug, the slots being cut at an angle such that the keying elements and the shutter are rotated through 90 deg. allowing the plug pins access to the live elements.
