Abstract
A heliograph employs a tube, parallel to the axis of the earth, driven in rotation at high speed. Solar rays received by the tube are analysed electronically after passage by a light guide. A light guide with a circular cross section has a central area of glass with a particular refractive index. This area is surrounded by a glass section having a different and lower refractive index. A rectangular cross section guide may have several outer layers to give a quadratric function of refractive index. The different indices permits the adjustment of angles of incidence such that total reflection of solar radiation is achieved as a function of the aperture angle in either plane.
