Abstract

A heat pump for central heating, where water pumped around a series of radiators is heated by a circuit which includes a compressor and a pressure reducer through which passes a refrigerating fluid and also employing an evaporator and heat exchanger, has a temperature detector on the evaporator to control the flow of hot water when the evaporator reaches freezing temperature. This device is thermostatically operated and acts as a by pass for the radiator system, and has a flow control flap actuated by the thermostat, so that the flow through the radiators is altered without altering the pump output, and the efficiency of the heat exchanger is increased at the same time by the additional flow through it. This thermostatically operated valve also controls the speed of the circulation pump.
