Abstract
Titanium and its alloys are hot worked by heating to a temp. corresp. to the beta phase region and applying at least two cold working steps or processes which may be forging, extrusion and/or rolling, such that the time elapsing between the two successive working operations the the final working operation and returning to the (alpha+beta) phase region by cooling is =3 minutes pref. =15 secs. The process profits from the ductility of the beta-phase without permitting excessive grain growth followed by pptn. of alpha at the edges of grain boundaries as in prior art.
