Abstract

1,187,213. Working at specified temperatures. REACTIVE METALS Inc. 10 July, 1967 [8 July, 1966], No. 31714/67. Heading B3V. [Also in Division C7] An alloy containing in percentage by weight Al 0À8-1À8 V 7À5-8À5 Fe 4À5-5À5 O 0À5 Ti balance is hot worked under such conditions that final working is completed at a temperature above the beta transition temperature, e.g. at 1700‹ F. The alloy is preferably then solution treated at 1350-1500‹ F., water quenched and aged at 900-1050‹ F. In a modified process, the alloy is cold worked and annealed after hot working, annealing preferably being effected in the range 1250-1500‹ F., followed by air or furnace cooling. Use of the alloys for fasteners in the aircraft industry is referred to.
