Abstract

Foams contg. at least 50 wt. % sulphur for use as insulation materials, construction materials, and base layers for road surfaces are prepd. by reaching (I) a polyisocyanate or a polyisothiocyanate, and (II) a prod. prepd. by reacting molten sulphur with an org. protonic a acid that reacts to form a sulphur-contg. org. acid contg. protonic acid groups. Process gives high quality flexible or rigid foams having a low flammability, uniform cell structure, and good physical properties.
