Abstract

The sub-frame is integrally formed with the finished (painted and glazed) window frame (1), thus providing a lightweight composite unit for conveyance and installation in the prepared opening, obviating the prior multi-stage construction sequence, providing a good seal to the sub-structure and easily adapting to wall thickness. All members (4, 5, 8) of a rectangular frame have shallow rectangular cross-sections. The outer faces are longitudinally recessed (6) to improve bonding and sealing. A sill tenon is provided with window frame to sub-frame sealing and a bearing strip (11) and hooks (9) are provided for lifting. The top member is slotted (10) to accommodate roller blinds and posts can embody rail fixing strips.
