Abstract

Illumination is by scleral contact, with a sleeve having a zone bearing against part of the eyeball. A number of optical fibres end in this zone (2) and are connected to a light source of variable intensity, the fibres passing inside the sleeve. There can be two contact zone at the ends of arms of a pincers. Means can be provided for use in conjunction with photographic or electronic equipment, and the contact zones can be enclosed in an opaque reflecting surface, returning light emitted towards the interior of the eyeball. The zone of illumination can be of spherical annular form.
