Abstract

The liquid for the seal is contained in an outer vessel with gas outlet at the top and a right angled gas delivery pipe whose end points downwards and is immersed in the liquid. Around that lower end, which is esp. toothed are a set of coaxial cylinders, the inners having vertically staggered truncated cone internal flanges and the outer having an almost completely enclosed base. When the gas delivery pressure rises, the liquid level is depressed sufficiently to allow the gas to escape towards the outlet through the first annular gap without passing through the liquid. When it falls below a safe level, the liquid immediately forms a non-return block.
