Abstract

Horizontal continuous casting especially of steel which is passed through a horizontal nozzle debouching into a gas-cooled open ended mould with lateral walls spaced from the nozzle. A fluid especially gas under pressure surrounds the nozzle outlet to produce a pocket in the molten metal, which surrounds the end of the nozzle and extends from it into part of the lateral wall of the mould beyond the nozzle.
