Abstract

Such effluents are usually treated in purification stations with pre-treatment, sedimentation and biological digestion installations which are complex and costly. The new process employs ready for use filtration units which can be replaced when they become satd. The units are used vertically or horizontally and contain one or more types of filtering material such as sand, gravel cinders, glass wool waste, metallic scrap as turnings or fillings, coal refuse, anthracite, coke, slag, slaked lime, textiles of all kinds etc. The method is simple practical and effective; it is economical and capable, in certain cases, of completely substituting the purificn. station. The unit is parallel pipedal in shape and has several layers of filtering materials. It has flanges at the top and bottom for attachment to the effluent inlet and an outlet. The lower conical end contains glass wool and is fitted with a diffuser which intended to force the effluent to be treated to be distributed throughout the terminal filtering layer.
