Abstract

A solid bowl centrifuge, which may include a concentric screw rotating at a different speed to draw out sedimented solids, has a concentric disc baffle close to outlet and attached to bowl, providing an annular passage at bowl periphery for heavy liquid, and pierced by pipes parallel to bowl, or oblique, forming outlet weir apertures for light liquid, which are extended along axis o bowl, beyond heavy liquid outlet weir apertures in end of bowl. The appts. is esp. suitable when the densities of liquids are so similar that radial distance between outlet weirs must be less than 1/10 mm. Applications include extraction of vegetable oils.
