Abstract

965,988. Centrifugal separators. SULZER FRERES S.A. Dec. 14, 1962 [Dec. 15, 1961], No. 47353/62. Heading B2P. A vertical vessel of substantially circular cross-section for separating solids or liquids from a gas has no movable parts and is provided with a tangential outlet 4 disposed above a tangential inlet 3 and with a constriction 5 situated wholly above the inlet and wholly below the outlet. The constriction may be provided by a throat formed by shaping the wall of the vessel or, as shown, by an annular flange which may be of frusto-conical shape and which need not be a sealing fit against the vessel wall. The diameter d may be from 80- 90% of the diameter D. The vessel may be cylindrical or frusto-conical. An outlet pipe 6 is provided for removal of the separated material. Separation of solid particles from gas may be assisted by providing a liquid layer on the inner wall of the vessel.
