Abstract

The yarn (e.g. PET, polyhexamethylene adipamide, cellulosic triacetate) has compact zones where the filaments are intermingled and relatively close-together, alternating with expanded zones (separated e.g. by 5-50 mm.) pref. of an oval shape, in which the filaments are well separated. The filaments may be broken in the expanded zones. Two multifilament yarns are advanced through a nozzles providing a turbulent air flow, one yarn being held under tension, and the other yarn being intermittently overfed to the nozzle to form the expanded zones. High production rates are achieved.
