Abstract

The invention relates to a reactor for use in connection with a biogas installation for waste disposal, comprising a reactor vessel 9 with a feed pipe 22 for incoming organic material and with an outlet pipe 25 for biogas, and with a discharge opening 20 for humus material, sand, etc., in which reactor material comprising essentially organic waste and water is rotted in order to obtain methane gas. In order that the reactor can operate with a high efficiency and be simple in its construction and not contain moving parts which are subject to wear, an antechamber 23 has been placed inside the reactor vessel 9 to receive organic material coming into the reactor vessel, which antechamber has an essentially closed bottom and essentially closed walls but which is open at the top in order to make it possible for only partially rotted material in the antechamber to rise upwards out of the antechamber by virtue of the fact that it has a lower density than the material rotted to a greater degree which surrounds the antechamber. <IMAGE>
