Abstract
Electric arc furnace vessel has a portion protruding from the side beyond the trough-shaped bottom part, through which the molten metal is poured. This protruding portion (3) is sponson-shaped and fully closed apart from the pouring aperture (9) in the bottom (3c), its interior (3a) being connected with that of the vessel (4) by a passage (5) to the side of the trough-shaped portion (1a). In the top (3b) of the protruding portion there can be a drilling (8) in line with the pouring aperture, accommodating the upper end of a guide bar (7) for the aperture plug. The bar passes through a float (6) on the molten metal, its lower end working in the aperture.
