LA ENERGIA ELECTRICA PRODUCIDA EN EXCESO EN LOS PERIODOS DE BAJA DEMANDA SE EMPLEA PARA PRODUCIR UN METAL ALCALINO UTILIZANDO LA CELULA ELECTROQUIMICA (5). EL METAL PRODUCIDO SE ALMACENA EN EL RECIPIENTE DE ACUMULACION (2); CUANDO LA DEMANDA AUMENTA, LA SOLUCION ACUOSA DEL HIDROXIDO DEL METAL ALCALINO PROVINIENTE DEL CONDUCTO (7). POR EL CONDUCTO (10) SE DESCARGA EL HIDROXIDO FUNDIDO A ALTA TEMPERATURA Y POR EL CONDUCTO (15), EL HIDROGENO PRODUCIDO. EL HIDROXIDO FUNDIDO LLEGA AL INTERCAMBIADOR (3), EN DONDE SE RECUPERA EL CALOR DE REACCION, Y POSTERIORMENTE ES ENVIADO PARTE AL ALMACENAMIENTO (4) Y EL RESTO ES BOMBEADO AL REACTOR (1). EL METAL EMPLEADO PUEDE SER LITIO, SODIO, POTASIO O MEZCLAS DE ELLOS. APLICABLE EN CENTRALES DE PRODUCCION DE ENERGIA ELECTRICA.
