Abstract

The fuel pump (25, 26) is intended for an i.c. engine (21) in which fuel is stored (23) under pressure and then fed to the engine by injectors (22) whose opening time determines (24) the amount injected. The pump comprises a high-pressure section (25), driven by the engine, whose outlet connects to the pressure store (23), its inlet being connected to a fuel supply source, e.g. a low-pressure pump (26). The inlet flow is controlled by a throttle (27) whose opening is determined by a controller (28) responding to the pressure in the store. The low-pressure pump outlet pressure may be controlled by a valve in response to varying engine speed.
