Abstract

To provide different speeds of drum rotation during washing and spinning phases of a washing machine, the drive motor (3) is connected to the drum drive belt pulley (22) via a drive arrangement (10-21 etc.) which drives the pulley (22) either direct or via a speed multiplying epicycloid gear arrangement. The drive motor is preferably a pole changing asynchronous motor. The epicyclic gear is brought into action for high speed spin operation by a centrifugal clutch including weights 12.
