Abstract

The escalator handrail is of U-section, comprising links of hard elastic material joined together and with lengthwise grooves in which a guide profile engages. Internal driving teeth are provided in the links, which are joined together at the level of the teeth roots and enclose soft elastic inserts between them. Protrusions parallel to the teeth extend inwards and fit in sockets. In the lengthwise direction the links are of Z-section, with the protrusions (14) on one flange (6) and the sockets (13) formed in the other (7), the latter being totally enclosed apart from the insertion openings. The vertical web (8) joining the flanges together accounts for roughly a quarter of the length of the link.
