Abstract
New aminocyclitol aminoglycoside derivatives of formula I, in which the symbols have the meaning given in Claim 1, as well as their addition salts with acid, are obtained by culturing a deoxystreptamine-negative mutant of Streptomyces in a nutrient medium containing, in addition to the sources of ordinary essential atoms, a streptamine or a mixture of gentamines of formula IIA whose symbols are also defined in Claim 1. The free base may then be treated and isolated from the culture medium using an organic or inorganic acid so as to prepare an addition salt with a nontoxic acid. The new compounds thus obtained are antibiotics capable of attacking microorganisms which have become resistant to antibiotics commonly used.
