Abstract
A centrifugal apparatus for refining glass, comprising a hollow container mounted on a fixed base to rotate about a vertically aligned axis and having an upper opening for continuous admission of unrefined molten glass containing occluded gaseous inclusions, and a lower opening for the removal of refined molten glass, characterized in that said lower opening comprises curved passages that extend to the exterior of the container from the interior bottom of the container in a substantial distance from the geometric axis of rotation, said passages being curved in the direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the container and of such a dimension that the molten glass is discharged from the passage at a speed relative to the fixed base, substantially equal to and opposite to the exit direction of the passage outside the container.
