Abstract
Process for continually cooling filiform material, comprising the steps of: causing relative movement along a predetermined path between a laterally closed chamber and successive stretches of an elongate body, this elongate body extending into the interior of one end of entrance of the chamber, along them, and then exits at the exit end of the chamber, communicating an anterior portion of the chamber with a fluid material capable of adopting a gaseous state; and directing at least one high-speed jet stream of treatment material into the interior of the chamber towards the rear from the part of the chamber communicating with the fluid material; the direction of the jet stream being such that in the direction of displacement of the successive sections of the elongate body a substantial component of the velocity of the jet stream is found; the minimum cross section of the portions of the chamber through which the current is directed in the successive sections of the elongated body extending substantially greater than the cross section of the elongate body; the velocity of the jet stream of the treatment material and the geometrical relationship of the cross sections of the portions of the chamber through which the successive stretches of the elongated body extend and the current and pressure of the fluid material pass in communication directly with the anterior portion of the chamber are such that they determine a sufficient differential pressure to cause portions of the fluid material in direct communication with the anterior portion of the chamber to be entrained into the chamber in a gaseous state in a volume of circulation per unit of time which is substantially greater than the volume of circulation of the treatment material per unit of time, to mix with the treatment material and produce a mixture of vapor moving through the chamber along the path of the elongated body to treat the elongated body.
