Abstract
1.- A procedure for manufacturing barium ferrite particles, which comprises the operations of: (1) homogeneously mixing (a) Fe2O3 alpha, and (b) CO3Ba or an equivalent source of barium oxide, in sufficient quantity to give, by reaction with Fe2O3 alpha, a ferrite of the generalized formula BaFe12O19, (2) calcining the mixture, (3) grinding the calcined product, (4) annealing the ground particles, and (5) treating the annealed ferrite particles aqueous acid to extract undesirable reaction products and any unreacted materials, and further characterized by adding, in step (1), about 1-3 weight percent Bi2O3 and about 1-6 weight percent of fluxing agent, carry out the calcination, in operation (2) at 950º-1150ºC, continue grinding, in operation (3), until the particles are submicron-sized, and anneal, in operation (4), at 900º-1000ºC.
