Drawings to Specification, Pottery materials.-A pigment for ceramic materials comprising activated ferric oxide, which may contain alkali, is prepared by heating a mixture of iron or an iron-bearing material with an alkali or alkaline substance, either from 200‹-400‹ C., or from 760‹-1200‹ C., and quenching the resultant alkaline ferrite in water. Specifications 16638/93, 7273/95, [both in Class 1, Acids, alkalies, &c.], and 261,647, [Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic] are referred to.
