Abstract

Apparatus for controlling the quality of the development produced by a charged developer material that slides in contact with a latent electrostatic imaging support element (10) through a development area, the apparatus comprising a developer electrode (46) adapted to be spaced from the image support element so that the developer material can move between said electrode and said member through the developer zone, a probe (22) for periodically testing the voltage across a part of said member, means of circuit (81) to which the periodically predetermined voltage is applied in the form of a discontinuous input signal and which generates a continuous output signal indicative of said predetermined voltage, and means (52) functionally connected to said electrode and responsive to the output signal continues to bias said electrode at a voltage that differs by a substantially constant amount from the predetermined voltage.
