Abstract
A two-stage method for the fabrication of steel by reduction and melting of iron minerals in a twin furnace having two furnace bodies that function alternately as a reduction furnace and as a final melting and reduction furnace, respectively, and a connection for transferring gas from one furnace body to another, whose method comprises the operations of generating a reducing gas in the furnace body that functions as a melting furnace and final reduction, passing said reducing gas to the furnace body that functions as a furnace of reduction, passing said reducing gas through a layer of granules arranged in said reduction furnace or through a continuous stream of mineral concentrate supplied to it to reduce it, then passing said reducing gas through iron scrap contained at the bottom of said reduction furnace to extract any fine particles entrained in said reducing gas, and finally te, interchange the functions of said furnace bodies so that the reduction furnace becomes a final reduction and melting furnace and the final melting and reduction furnace becomes a reduction furnace.
