Abstract
A process for obtaining calm steel with aluminum content, non-alloy or low alloy, with low carbon content, by the continuous casting process and by adding aluminum as a deoxidizing agent, pouring the liquid steel, in contact with the oxygenated atmosphere, in an intermediate container and, from this, in a refrigerated shell, characterized in that the aluminum is added in two partial quantities, the first partial quantity being incorporated at a time before the liquid steel is poured into the intermediate container, and this first partial quantity being calculated in such a way that it suffices to fix most of the oxygen existing in the liquid steel, provided that the casting jet that comes into contact with the air contains only between approximately 0.005 and 0.01% metallic aluminum, while the second partial quantity is not added until the casting stream no longer comes into contact with the atmosphere, the amount being so large that the desired analysis is achieved.
