Abstract

A motor-compressor comprises a vertical crank-shaft 5, a motor rotor 15 secured to the tubular lower end 21 of the shaft, and a bladed screw impeller 24 fixed inside the tubular lower end so that on rotation of the shaft oil 27 is forced up the tube to lubricate the compressor moving parts and cool the motor windings 18. Some of the oil forced up the tube passes through holes 34 into an annular chamber 35, whereafter it flows upwardly through passages 36 and is flung on to the windings 18 by a shortcircuit ring 20. The flow path of the oil for lubricating purposes and also details of the compressor construction are described in Specification 1,254,956.
