Abstract

3 - Amino - 2 - phenylpropiophenones of the general formula wherein R and R 1 are H, C 1-6 alkyl or cycloalkyl of 3 to 6 C atoms and X and Y may each be H, halogen, C 1-6 alkyl or C 1-6 alkoxy and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting a suitably substituted desoxybenzoin with formaldehyde in a polar solvent in the presence of a catalytic amount of a base such as piperidine and adding the resulting methylene desoxybenzoin to a liquid amine with or without a solvent being present and optionally followed by salt formation.
