Abstract

A stop motion for a smallware loom includes, for each shuttle 1 a first means 11 for sensing loss of tension in thread drawn off the spool 3 and second means 9 operative to sense partial uncovering of the spool. The thread from spool 3 passes through a guide eye 11 which, under normal thread tension, remains upright. Upon weft breakage, the loss in tension allows eye 11 to fall downwards, Fig. 3, to a position in which, during beat up, it contacts a switch operating member 16 on a stationary member 12 to stop the loom. Alternatively member 16 may operate a pneumatic or hydraulic stop means. When the spool is nearly empty, electrically conductive spoon 9 completes a circuit from contact 5 through spool spindle 7 to contact 6 whereby when, during beat up, the shuttle 1 moves towards stationary member 12 to bring contacts 5, 6, against contacts 14, 15, a stop motion circuit is completed.
