Abstract

1355518 Weft storage devices SULZER BROS Ltd 12 May 1971 [14 May 1970] 14464/71 Headings D1C DIE and D1J A device for storing yarn prior to insertion into the shed of a loom, or a feed wheel unit for a knitting machine or a winding frame comprises a stationary drum 44 around which yarn is wrapped by a flyer 41 and having a tapering free end 82, and an annular member 101 surrounding the free end and also tapering in the direction in which yarn is drawn off, to prevent ballooning. The member 101 may be movable axially towards and away from the drum, which movement may be synahronised with the picking cycle of the loom. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 2 and 6, not shown), a shoulder (104) may be provided on the drum and the taper of the free end and the annular member may be provided by a rounded portion. Yarn feed into the drum may be controlled by a light source (112) Fig. 2 (not shown) and a reflective device (113).
