Abstract

A transformer auto-transformer or reactor has a main winding section M (Fig. 4) and at least two regulating winding sections T1, T2 having different numbers of turns, switching means being provided for selectively connecting said regulating winding sections T1, T2 singly or together in aiding or opposing relationship in series with said main winding section M. Preferably T1 and T2 differ by one turn and other regulating sections, if provided, may differ similarly or have equal numbers of turns so that the output voltages (or impedances) obtainable may vary (above and below the voltage of M) by steps of the value of one turn. Another arrangement is described having two main winding sections (C1 (C2) (Fig. 5, not shown), two regulating sections (T1), (T2) and three synchronously operated step-by-step switches. The regulating sections may be interwound and sandwiched between the layers of the main windings.
