Abstract

An electromagnetic actuating mechanism for a contactor or circuit-breaker has alternately energized windings (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), each surrounding a pair of armatures 2, 2 and 3, 3 forming parts of a double magnetic circuit 1. The armatures are each connected by a pivoted lever 20, 21, 22, 23 to a common slider 14 having a recess which receives the circuitbreaker or contactor operating member 5. When a pair of co-operating armatures are attracted to each other on energization of the surrounding coil, the other pair are moved apart by the levers. The co-operating faces of the armatures may be flat or provided with complementary projections and recesses. The mechanism can be detachably mounted on a circuit-breaker and a cover may be provided with a handle attached to the pivot stud 12 of the lever 22 to permit manual operation. A visual indicator arm may be attached to the stud 13 of lever 23. Each electromagnet may have only one armature.
