Abstract

<PICT:0921854/IV(a)/1> In an apparatus for drawing continuously advancing yarns or threads of thermoplastic linear polymers, the drawing means comprises two parallel or almost parallel cylindrical pins in contact with each other, the yarn being passeda full turn around the pair of pins. The pins may be of diameter greater than 10 mm., especially 15-25 mm., and may be made of porcelain glass, chromium-plated metal, or of a ceramic material containing at least 99% titanium dioxide. The pins may be highly polished and at least one pin may be held at an elevated temperature. In apparatus as shown, thread 2 is led over a thread tensioner 1 to a driven feed roller 3, slippage being prevented by pressure roller 4. Thread guide 6 keeps the thread in contact with the pressure roller at at angle of more than 180 degrees, the guide being traversed to prevent incision of the roller. The thread is then wrapped a single turn around the drawing device 7, consisting of substantially parallel cylindrical pins 10, 11, to draw godet 8 and guiding roller 9. Yarns drawn using such a drawing device show greater freedom from faults than those drawn over a single pin.
