Abstract

A rotary cutting tool comprises a spindle 2 carrying a cutting element 4 shaped as a solid of revolution, and a chip breaker knife 3 mounted on the spindle for rotation about a geometrical axis of the knife and so that a clearance is formed between the knife blade and the surface of the workpiece 8 being machined. The knife may be shaped as a body solid of revolution or be star- shaped and can be mounted for adjustment, for example by means of an eccentric mandrel 10.
